Ah…..   the infamous Victorian Trade Cards!

 

Before the advertising postcards, companies of the Victorian era (about 1880 – 1900) got the word out about their products through dealers, distributors, and advertisers through art.  Usually a painting with the company name would grace the front of the card, and a detailed description could be found on the back.  For example:
