EB Doo Dads
For lack of a better term, we’ll
call these items Doo Dads.
These are items that were handed out by the company, salespersons,
or EB dealers for advertising, promoting, or achievement.
Sort of like shopping for a new car and the salesperson gives you
a pen or keychain or even a free tank of gas.
Some of these were given out as sales awards, or even years of
service to the company.
Notice to that some of these Doo Dads will say (after Emerson
Brantingham)
Seems that a lot of branch houses “did their own” with freebies
and handouts. And if any of you reading this have something unique that didn’t
require a truck or trailer to get it home….. feel free to send me a
picture and I’ll add it to the page!!! ENJOY!
STICK
PINS
These originated with the Emerson Foot lift plow and after 1912
the name Brantingham was added.
They were made of brass and lacquer coated. They were typically
handed out to new customers who purchased a Foot Lift Plow
It appears that the rarest of this design is the celluloid encased
pin as seen below.
At some point after the company became Emerson Brantingham in 1909
they switched to the well known EB diamond logo.
Again, most were brass or copper and laquer coated.
However, one is 18k gold, one is sterling silver, and two are
silver plated. Guessing that these were reserved for service pins or
executive pins.
ASHTRAYS
Though Charles
B. was a non smoker and
discouraged such activities,
he allowed employees and guests to partake of such in the main
lobby and cafeteria and provided ashtrays for said activity!
These were the provided ashtrays. They were
porcelainized cast iron with a brass or silver plate
matchholder. Brown for the lobby and
white for the cafeteria services.
And speaking of match holders…….
Found this little gem in
All metal box and even has a striker on the side!

RULER
Seems like everyone was giving away rulers and yardsticks back in
the day. This folding gem is still 12” so I guess it qualifies!
PENCILS
And of course we need a couple of pencils for marking with
the ruler!

TRINKET TRAY
And of course we need a little tray for the pencils or coins or
keys or whatever……
These were given out by dealers to their loyal customers and for
special occasions.
They’ve been found at flea markets, swap
meets, Ebay, etc

And for the Ladies who
shopped the EB dealerships………
Vanity Mirrors!!

And, of course, some
misc. artifacts picked up at swap meets, flea markets,
antique shops, and of
course from a little horse trading,
and Christmas gifts from
friends.
Collapsible Drinking
Cups

Magnetic Paper Clamp for
the Refridgerator

Found these buggy tags
in the original buggy shop my that my
Dad and I visited back
in the 90’s.
It was the original Emerson Talcott building
from 1852.
When we were there it
was the home of Cardinal Glass
and has since been torn
down.
